In the previous months a lot of citizens got actively involved in supporting refugees who just arrived here in Berlin. But not all supporters already have lots of experience in working with refugees. Sometimes irritations and unintentionally difficult situations occur. Experience in dealing with people, who are often traumatized by war, expulsion and flight, and a critical awareness of racist stereotypes and structures in our society and our own thinking are of great significance for working with migrants. 25 years after the division of Europe and the cold war, Berlin is still a central place of remembrance. This training took place in the week of the 25. anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th 2014. So we had the chance to visit lots of interesting events in Berlin on this topic and to take a closer and critical look at the culture of remembrance regarding the East/West history in Germany: Which pedagogical models are adapted in this places of remembrance and events? The European funding program Erasmus+ provides many opportunities for funding and implementing transnational projects in the fields of education, culture, youth and sports. Erasmus+ incorporates previously separated European programs like Grundtvig, Leonardo, Youth in Action and Comenius and Sports. By means of a modular conveying system fundings within the Erasmus+ framework can be better adjusted to the special requirements of the projects. In different workshops we pointed out the opportunities Erasmus+ is offering especially for small and medium-sized organizations. Solar e.V. organized a seminar about intercultural issues from 7.-16.2.2014 in Berlin. All the participants in the training were from the partner organizations in Germany, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Turkey. One of the topics was to learn from other countries and cultures and as well plan future activities and projects with each other. The seminar included excursions to different organizations in Berlin which work in the field of intercultural issues and social development. We had also lectures about the anthropological side of transcultural theories and we tried out different kinds of educational methods about intercultural interaction. The training course „Climate change and political education“ took place in Berlin 29.6.-10.7.2013. The participants came from all over Europe and everyone had different political, economical and educational backgrounds. It was organized by Solar e.V. and consisted of different kind of educational methods. The subject climate change has been at issue for common people for over a decade. Still not so many people are trying to change the reasons of climate change. Some scientists predict a total devastation of civilization within 50 years. For this workshop we invited people from Germany, Portugal, Austria and Turkey, who are active in the field of youth and adult education and who were interested in deepening their knowledge about and developing methods of antiracist education as well as in training their practical skills as facilitators. In our ten-days programme we focused on concrete steps how to develop a greater awareness of exclusion, discrimination and racism amongst youth and young people. Workshop "Jewish life in Berlin"

People of Jewish belief, their customs and religion represent an integral part within the societies of the European Community. Jewish women and men are visible and audible inside the heart of our societies. Nevertheless the non-Jewish part of the population often has a poor knowledge of their Jewish fellows. „Jewish Life in Berlin“, Germany’s biggest and most various Jewish community, took us to a ideal starting point for our expedition to far more than religion and history. Together with participants from Croatia, Swiss, Turkey, Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein we analyzed recent developments like the increasing antisemitism in EU countries and it’s consequences for Jewish citizens.Weiterlesen
